German term or phrase: Grenzenloser Strom
Vorschlaege? Danke fuer Eure Hilfe!

OK, I’ll hazard this as a full-blown answer. After all, you seemed to like the literal approach last time (Führerschein in Klimakunde = climate "driving licence"):

Despite the rather non-native sound to it (xyz without frontiers / xyz ohne Grenzen / xyz sans frontières), the phrase has taken on respectability since Peter Gabriel’s successful song Games Without Frontiers, as the following long list of titles confirms:

agree  British Diana: Translators without frontiers? Or perhaps limitless translators?

-> Or the 'borderless' variety? http://www.proz.com/forum/translators_associations/28033-tra... // I think that 'limitless power' sounds rather like the promises made in the 1950s for nuclear generation, so a bit out of place here.

agree  Trudy Peters: or without borders, as in "Doctors without Borders"

-> Thanks, Trudy. I was surprised by how well the "... without borders" version scored on everyone's favourite search engine. // Just read your note above. Have searched for Peter Gabriel 'Games without Borders' but couldn't find it (smiley icon) AJS

agree  Melanie Meyer: I also like Trudy's "Electricity without borders"

agree  Rolf Keiser: with Trudy

agree  clearyjd: "Electricity without borders" definitely feels the most natural to me

-> Maybe a US v UK difference? My own feeling is that 'without frontiers' sounds the more established of the two, i.e. less Eurospeak.

transnational power grid

Explanation:
The EU is studying plans for a transnational power grid in the North Sea that could provide electricity from renewable sources for 70m homes. It could cost up to €20bn (£16bn) to install.

The proposed 3,850 mile offshore grid would connect more than 100 wind farms, containing 10,000 turbines, to seven North Sea countries - Britain, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for this, Jennifer. While I agree that this is a very elegant way of saying it and that you indeed need a grid for the power to be available in all these countries, I feel that it shifts the emphasis from power to grid, which is not what is wanted here IMO.

neutral  Trudy Peters: I think this is too specific for the asker's context
1 hr
-> The text talks of "Strommärkte in den nordischen Ländern", "Netzwerke" (=power grids), "über die nordischen Grenzen hinweg" - which made me think of what I did.
