Yes but only part of the day I hope.. Dec 19, 2008

I am a beginner, I work as a translator since a year and when an agency asked me if I were at their disposal in these days I couldn't say no. However as it is still a bit difficult for me finding jobs I am happy to work when they give me the possibility. Translation is my passion and I go straight on my way!

Nope Dec 19, 2008

Most of my agencies are on hiatus, as is most of the local industry.
I have some long term projects I'm working on during the holidays, but even that won't get done on certain days.
And today is a snow day so the holidays began early here.

Have you ever try to translate when you have three childs in the house for the whole Christmas vacation? I can't...

Definitely yes Dec 19, 2008

I hate the Xmas season anyway. I prefer to celebrate and have fun at a time other than everybody else.
I've got more than my share to finish by Dec. 24, Jan. 5 and Jan 15, all in all about 150 pages - 225,000 characters no spaces.

I usually do Dec 19, 2008

... for the past few years anyway, due to popular demand.
This year, having recently been told to cut out drinking due to a liver problem, I might as well be working then anyway, since everybody else will just be getting drunk and eating too much... It'll stop me getting bored.

Umm, what's happening on the 24th?? Dec 19, 2008

Just kidding, I know it's Christmas.
But I hope we're all aware that for a large part of the Proz community, this is a day like any other. So the results don't really mean much, unless the poll is restricted to Christians - and only those Christians that don't belong to the Eastern Orthodox church.

Merry Christmas everyone!

(Edited to correct: "Large majority of the Proz community" to "large part of the Proz community". The former was an unintended assertion, which may be inaccurate).

I consider the "eves" as working days. Dec 19, 2008

I don't see the 24th and 31st as different from any other days. If the question had been "Are you planning on working on the 25th and 1st?" I would definitely have answered NO.

It´s not that I couldn't work if I wanted to, there´s certainly enough to do, but even though working is good for the wallet, a day of special observance is good for the soul.

I won't be working on 23rd -26th, but may do the other days. Dec 19, 2008

My daughter's birthday is on 23rd, so I will be busy that day through to 26th. I will work the other days if I have work, but I am only just starting out, so I will see.

Work, work, work, work... Dec 19, 2008

OK, I'm working on a lonnnng job (a book), and I just got another fairly long job to be finished by January 5, so I guess you all know what I'll be doing over the holidays! I'm not really big on get-togethers during the holidays anyway, but I will take off Christmas afternoon to have tea with a couple of friends (who are also my employers!).

A longer proofreading project over Christmas Dec 19, 2008

I don't like proofreading at all! And now I have accepted a large job, but it is not proofreading - I have to translate abt. 50 % of the text because of incomprehensible German version!

Our family meeting is planned for December 26 - with our granddaughers and all! So I will work on December 24 and 25 to complete my job till Thursday. Nevertheless I will go the Christmas Mass!

other - 24th off, 31st on Dec 20, 2008

I am definitely taking the 24th off, if only because I have worked through so many weekends lately that I am sure I will still have shopping to do. On the other hand, I will probably work normal hours New Year's Eve - no overtime though, don't ask - but I sure hope no one needs anything New Years Day, I think I may be not at home to them.

definitely Dec 20, 2008

I just got socked with several projects and even had to say no to one of them. So far I have deadlines right up to christmas eve. It was very quiet early in the month so I'm happy to be working....i have to make up for that slack period!

Most of my regulars will be taking time off anyways, but I told everyone I'd be available if they need me. ANd i just was contacted by another new agency today who also wanted me to do a rush job. I wouldn't have been able to take it on but he did

Mind you, when this current round of deadlines passes, I'll be happy to take some time off and do a dab of drinking...haha
