I've never been asked as a freelancer (of course an employer collects a copy of your identity card when you are recruited). My passport is no longer valid and as I no longer need it to travel in the EU it’s more than likely that I’ll not ask for a new one any time soon (my traveling years are gone and I have no intention of traveling outside the EU). Anyway, if I’m really interested in working with someone, I’ll have no problem scanning my ID card.

I do not like to submit such personal documents
It is completely unnecessary | May 21, 2021 |
If the client wanted me to visit, I could agree to make travel arrangements, but they still do not need to see my passport. They could even buy me a ticket to travel without seeing my passport. They can see relevant credentials - my exam certificates for instance - and they can check me up in the Danish business register, but my personal documents are not necessary for a working relationship, either online or in person.

(I did.) I knew Tom's Irish, as he mentioned it in a post I read once. And I don't even follow these forums that much! As for yourself, Chris, I didn't initially recognise you in your new guise when you posted that excellent "SpongerZ/KlownZ/MugZ" reply to my question the other week, I should have got it from the trademark waggish humour. It's not the most obvious of progressions, is it, from furry feline photobomber to nihilistic Norwegian nightmarishness? But equally alliterative, I'll give you that. To make this post at least vaguely on-topic, I'll add that I wouldn't send a scan of my passport to an agency/client. There, that's the "relevance" box ticked.

Like Teresa, I don't plan to renew my passport at this time. I would have no trouble sharing a copy of it with a legitimate agency, whether a travel agency or an international employer.
