Many of you may already know that Albert Einstein was born on March 14th 1879.
What most of you may not know is that I was born on March 14th 1969, therefore today is my 38th birthday

I love to learn about traditions like this! Really interesting! So Albanians are celebrating today.
I'm curious to know what that dessert you mention is like. What's the name?

It called ballakume, and it is made of butter, sugar, eggs, and (don't laugh) with a very little bit of "finjë" (which in Italian is "cenere" from wood fire), so in English ash. That should prevent the sweet from getting hard and bitter. The then cook tis typical Albanian speciality, kind of "torta salata" called byrek. It has many very thin dough layers, with many different things in the middle. Obviously today the make it with gren stuff to welcome and wish well for the green vegies of the se... So they all go out to picnics, they dance and sign, kids play,...something like "sagre del paese".
They then prepare this white and red thred to put arownd the wrist, symbolising the summer colors, to wish for a good summer. This has a whole long history, which I am not telling now, but it's fun.
Hey, I wish I was there today. My girls would have enjoyed so much moving from one picnic blanket to the other to taste peoples' food, play with the other children and dance. So if you were in Albania today, dear Cecila, they would have made sucha huge B-day party for you. Besides, knowing Albanians, for which any reason is good enogh to through a party and have fun..... My Italian husband also really enjoys so much these kind of gatherings.

or "Shengri Kuaile" as the Chinese would say. My birthday is in 5 days time, on the 19th when I will be 39. One year closer to the BIG 40!
I'm quite looking forward to it actually, being 40. I have no fear of growing older, I just look forward to what exciting chapter in my life that will hold.
I share my birthday with Bruce Willis. Like him, I started losing my hair when I was young too:(

Funny how many people turn older at this time of year - or maybe the others just don't tell?
My birthday is tomorrow (March 15) and turning 26 I think I'm the "baby" around here. But hey, only 2 weeks ago I was actually asked for my ID in the pub...
