I marked "take the rest of the day off," but your answer is better. If I finish a big job in the morning, it's because I worked through the night. So I sleep several hours. Then take the rest of the day off!

If we don't have a really urgent project, we take the rest of the day off and go to a nice restaurant or to the park.
We usually receive at least one big project per month that would confine us for days! So, we take full advantage of our free time.

From a normal perspective, it sounds lazy or undisciplined to "take the rest of the day off", but, in the circumstances (very common among translators, I believe) of having worked at least double time each day while the big project lasted (and even, perhaps, through the night), I do not think it is possible to do anything else but take the rest of the day off, otherwise we become translating machines.

I should mark 2 options:
If I have enough time and can start next project next day, then I take a day off. If I cannot - I take a break only and then start another job.

I also miss an option like "Take a day off whenever I'm not pressed with the next deadline". Which is rare, so I voted "Start next project".

If I have nothing in the pipeline, I can take a day off.
I chose carry on with the next project.
Last month I met 31 deadlines and delivered 31 jobs (between min fee and 27kword), so half a day off after every large project would be quite a challenge.

Every time I finish a project that has kept me engrossed in work-related issues only, I take some time to deal with everything else I have been putting aside.
I am the only one in the house who works from home now, so cleaning, shopping and organising is my "unspoken" duty.
When I am translating big documents, spiders hold sway, the pile of ironing reaches unprecedented heights and the fluff under the beds hides my children´s forgotten toys.

If I have more work with looming deadlines, I start the next project.
If I don´t, I take care of the administrative details (invoices, recording in accounts spreadsheets, etc.) first.
If I was up all night, as is often the case, yes, likely, I sleep.
If it is early in the month, or late and I´ve had little work, I try to dig up more work.

If I was not up all night, and don´t have more work, nor feel the need to seek it, after the administrative details are dispensed, I am likely to clean house, arrange office, update website, pay bills, go to the bank, drop the cleaning off, go to market, and attend to such mundane tasks.
When possible, of course, when all of these other necessities and responsilibities have already been seen to, I will take the time off and go for a walk, go skating, read a book, paint (photodharma.com is my art), etc....This last, like others have indicated, is all too rare. ▲ Collapse
