Hi,
it's been a long time that I'm searching for news about this topic and I thought to post something here. I'm sure someone will be able to help me in my search.
I graduated about three years ago in Finno-ugristic and, although I have a job now,my dream has always been to do a Phd in the same subject or in Linguistics, studying the processes of birth and death of languages.

I graduated about three years ago in Finno-ugristic and, although I have a job now,my dream has always been to do a Phd in the same subject or in Linguistics, studying the processes of birth and death of languages.
Do you know how could I find a University supporting me in this dream and, better, something that I could do at home so that if , for example, the U is in the US, I can really do it?
I speak and write fluently Italian (NS), English, German and Finnish
Thank you for your help.

Hi. In the US there's a linguistics department in many universities. With your undergradute degree you may apply for graduate study in linguistics, there are various forms of financial aid: scholarships, fellowships, teaching assistant (TA), research assistant (RA), etc, some aids are created for international students.
See, eg, http://www.linguistics.berkeley.edu/

Also, look into exchange student programs, ask probably the ministry of education in the country you are in about the possible exchange student programs with other countries. ▲ Collapse | | | Maria Karra 미국 Local time: 05:28 회원(2000) 그리스어에서 영어 + ... | Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich | Dec 29, 2006 |

Thank you all for your suggestions, it's been great to see that maybe I will be able to realize this project...
Maybe I haven't cleraly pointed out in my post that I'm looking for a program that I can do/follow as part-time and in distance learning mode. I'm living and working full-time in Brussels..so I don't want to leave the job and move to other countries...
Thank you very much,

Hi Davide!
Have you heard of the modular or sandwich PhD programs at the University of Birmingham, UK?
http://www.cels.bham.ac.uk/prospectus/ModPhD.htm
I'm not sure if it would cover your topic, but have a look. It's aimed for people that want to study for a PhD, while working in another country. I'm looking into it myself and it sounds promising.
