Today I've received an on-site message from another ProZ.com user (registered in october 2011). It's very strange:

I don't know what's it about, so I've reported it as spam. Perhaps somebody has mixed up proz.com with another kind of site?
Somebody else got the same message?
What do you think about it?

the same thing happened to me too. I received an email on my Proz account by another Proz user telling me exactly the same things. I think we should inform the staff.

I got one too and reported it immediately as spam. I get this kind of thing a lot on Skype too, they are quite common. The best action to take is to ignore them, never answer them, and report them as spam.

...since I got one too.
Other than being mildly irritating, what this kind of thing shows (this is not the first time it has happened here) is that it is simply too easy for individuals to create profiles. I imagine that if some decent minimum of information were required, this would dissuade parasites from creating profiles on proz.com for the purpose of extracting money.

the same message four times. Would be good if such mails could be filtered through Proz.com system. It's very unpleasant to receive them from such a prominent site.

It's obvious from the moment they start declaring their undying love (for someone they've never met).
It is quite a bizarre method of scamming though. It might have felt more at home being sent through a dating website but a translators website? Just beyond weird.

I’d like to thank everybody who took part in this discussion.
As jyuan_us wrote, I was able find the same message on many websites using google.
I really don’t understand what advantage someone might have writing such letters, but there are strange people outside there....
I’d also like to thank a proz.com staff which blocked this person very quickly.
