Well, it may make a little bit more sense - if not much Aug 5, 2015

If they were relocating from US to Germany, at least they might be looking for someone who could help them with the language.

But the UK?

I didn't think too much and offered myself to Alex asking him to send me money first before to do those travel arrangement bookings for him. He has now sent me 4 American Express Traveller cheques in the value of totally 2000 Euros and has asked me to bring them to my british bank. I have asked him why he sent me Euros instead of British Pounds considering that I live in Cambridge, UK. He replied it would be easier to convert than dollars. I found this reply quite weird and stopped to trust this "temporary employer", I have reported the case to the Action Fraud Police in London, they confirmed me that this must be a money laundry fraud and advised me to destroy the cheques either by my bank or by the police. I still have to do that. I hope this helps other translators being contacted by this suspicious Alex Tilba in Chicago. All the best wishes, Svava

Oh dear, so I have been scammed too - except that I have already tried to deposit the cheques, but so far, no money has arrived in my account.
Does anyone know what to do in this case? Do I have to alert the police? Can I try to get the cheques back from the bank? Did you actually sign the contract, and did you do anything to terminate the employment?

I wish I had been more suspicious sooner and read your post earlier, Svava!
