I'm told this scam is well-known already but just for those who haven't yet heard of it:
it comes from company calling itself Webzilla Creations (and they may operate under other names as well). They pretend to represent Microsoft and tell you that you need to renew your MS licence and they will gladly hack into your computer to install it, at a price of course....

Yes, and they don't contact you only via email, I have been called several times on the phone by people claiming to be Microsoft representatives. Most of the time these calls come from an UK based phone.

Not just a call Jan 18, 2019

This wasn't just a call. My impression was that they were already into my computer by the time they called. It took me several days to have my computer checked, reset all my passwords, notify the police, paypal, my bank, etc.
