Hi Stefano,
please do a proofread work, and please try to check out if anything is wrong. We'll pay you USD 250 for this. Just try to do an accurate work please! Another linguist let us down and client might be frustrated with this.
Please confirm
Best,
David

I've just seen your email. That's not proofreading but editing.
15:37
I'll give priority to those issues anyway
16:07
I addressed those issues
virtually every sentence I checked from the source is different from the target
This is not the job I took. I can use the time I intended to spend proofreading correcting the text, but I won't be able to cover everything.
16:59
most sentences are inaccurate and some are just wrong
I take no responsibility for any error that is left
and I will not offer additional editing after delivery
please confirm that you accept or I will not deliver

Dear Stefano,
thank you for accepting the task. Please proceed with the project and take into consideration the client's comments below.
As agree, we can offer you 200 USD for this task. Please deliver tomorrow morning (24 January, your time).
Please confirm on receipt of this email. Thanks!
Kind regards,
David.

Considering the behaviour of this agency, you have all the rights to contact the final client, and request of them to either pay you to have to copyright released or it they claim they have already paid, to request the full identity of the business that got paid for your work.
All that assuming that you can prove that you have done the work ... Which links to the silly idea that you should erase all traces of the work done as soon as you deliver - yeah, sure -if you want to contribute to creating a scammer's paradise, leaving you wide open to all sort of abusive "low quality" claims, or even plain simple non-payment. ▲ Collapse | |

I then attempted to call him in London-- to no avail...he did not pick up. I then wrote back to him to let him know about this major discrepancy and then called him back again. This time he did pick up. I told him that this this was totally unacceptable and I was turning down the project.
Although I did not find the firm in Blue Board, however, I did find the following on Google (link below).
After almost 13 years in the field I'm still encountering more and more scammers. Fellow translators...be ware of people who cannot or do not want to do an 'honest' day's work or for that matter pay legitimate translators what we deserve!
Have a great weekend!

What stands out to me, is that he comes across as if we've been working together for years. I'd never heard of him until now. I'm glad I looked here first, so I can just move the message to my junk folder.
Just posting this here so other translators can beware, he's still out there.

I even gave him one link telling about someone complaining about him; https://www.translationdirectory.com/forum/messages/?7750
and I started getting nervous that he also did the same for me. I did not provide the Proz link. He just rubbished the claim, clarifying only one idiot having non-stop argument about this and that. He emphasized that payment will be made last week but he didn't.
After I sent several emails, and threatened him that I will tell the world then he replied saying my bank information is incomplete and I just rubbished his claim, telling I am giving the same info for the past 18 years and I have no problem receiving the payment from any countries.
To be continued. The drama still on going.
