Hi,
I have been approached by two different potential clients recently, within a few days of one another, wanting to discuss projects in FR-NO and EN-NO respectively. Nothing special so far. But as the threads of the respective conversations goes on, I'm struck by the similarity of the two - they both have projects above 10.000 source words and both are spontaneously offering me to pay 50 % of the sum at delivery of half the project front and 50 % on final delivery - great - and the... Hi,
I have been approached by two different potential clients recently, within a few days of one another, wanting to discuss projects in FR-NO and EN-NO respectively. Nothing special so far. But as the threads of the respective conversations goes on, I'm struck by the similarity of the two - they both have projects above 10.000 source words and both are spontaneously offering me to pay 50 % of the sum at delivery of half the project front and 50 % on final delivery - great - and they're both very eager to have my bank details. (IBAN, Bic, account number, bank address... stuff I give out readily enough).
What's making me tick is that they asked for my account details in exactly the same way... albeit in different languages (English and French)
They are both guest users of Proz.com and not logged in.

Beware

Hi,
Same thing happened to me about 3 years ago. Most probably they will send you a check and ask you to deposit it, but a few days later cancel the order and tell you to send them a wire. If you have deposited the check do not reimburse anything because that check is a scam, will bounce. Advise your bank. If you are not at this point, then do not proceed on this projects
Good luck

I’d say that It feels and smells like a scam. If by any chance your “prospective clients” are individuals who are supposed to do a presentation in x days, they’ve also contacted me some time ago…
