This morning, I received the following typically phony job offer from a person who just set up a phony profile (https://www.proz.com/profile/3132731) in which he couldn't even manage to spell his phony name right:

Proz is there for absolutely anyone who wants sign up as as a translator, outsourcer or whatever.
No questions are asked, anything at all can be stated on the profile page without having to prove that any of it is true.
This leaves the door wide open to those who want to scam, cheat, deceive, etc. others on the site. Most people are eager for work so full contact details and other personal information are visible. That is a very real problem, but there are no perfect solutions to that.
You can find plenty samples of various websites / registers that do have more or less elaborate "inclusion criteria" and still can not guarantee that you won't end up with someone not capable of delivering what you need to be done (like a crap solicitor registered in all sorts of "registries" that will manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on your behalf ...)
One way or another whatever you find on the Web has to taken with caution, and further checked as much as possible.
