Hahaha! They picked my name from the roster of court interpreters and they want me to "translate/Interprete" in the pharmaceutical field!
Stay safe!

And more specifically, 'from one language to another'.

I think it's important to be precise in these cases.
I remember once having to interpret for two people who were speaking the same language.
Each was using the word "protocol", but because of their different academic backgrounds, they were using it to mean two completely different things. So their level of communication was less than optimal.

Since this is a forum for translators, it's up to us to write correctly. I totally agree on that.
However, as you may have noticed, the community is international and although many work with English and this language is the lingua franca, we have our own native language and no one can be 100% fluent, error-free and perfect.
On the other hand, didn't it occur to you that Liviu-Lee may have unintentionally skipped that word and not even noticed it?

Yes, I can see it. He corrected it and without shouting.

It reminded me just too much of an old, familiar scam...
They don«t need to think | Sep 8, 2023 |
The world is full of easy believers in everything. Sometimes I translate cyber crimes and wonder: how is that possible??..
I just an email this morning practically word for word (except that they found my info on the ATA directory, so they say). Good thing I decided to dig a little deeper on it.
The moral of the story: if you get a job offer completely out of the blue, always, always investigate.
Cheers! | | |
Variations of this scam (all having in common notifying the recipient of being pre-qualified for a high-paying full-time job following a zoom interview) have been around for at least the last 6-7 years. I think the first such "offer" that I received was from someone purporting to be from Zeiss Optical.
As the old saying goes, "If it's too good to be true...."

Don't be too hard on yourself, Lee. I suggest an even smaller correction:
"How stupid they think we are!"
Occupational Hazard | Sep 9, 2023 |
I think Tom's desire to correct English is due to occupational hazard that we all have up to a certain degree. Harmless most of the time.
