This has attracted a lot of interest on Facebook. But when I did it with my niece from Tennessee, it listed Tennessee and the South as the places she was least likely to come from. There appears to be something wrong with the map colorings. Has anyone else had the same experience?
I have lived 30 years in Miami, two months in New Jersey thirty years ago but my answers are most similar to those of Madison, Wisconsin; Saint Louis, MO and the Chandler/Gilbert area in Arizona. No wonder I am told I have a funny accent. Thanks! Very educational. | | | I'm from New York or New Jersey | Dec 31, 2013 |
I'm from New York or New Jersey but maybe that's because I wanted to be from that part of the country.

Two of the cities with speech "closest" to mine are within a 100-mile radius of where I grew up, and the third is within 250 miles. | | | Make sure you have the right link... | Dec 31, 2013 |
When I first took the test, I was sure the results were wrong because the cities it gave me were from the Midwest. Also, the words it said were most distinctive from my answers at the bottom were not my answers at all. So I figured these were someone else's results, which may have to do with the link that was provided in the first post. I Googled "How Y’all, Youse and You Guys Talk" and was able... Anyway, when I took the test again, the results were spot-on. I grew up and lived in Northern California for most of my life, and the cities it gave me were Santa Rosa, Fremont, and San Jose. I actually lived in San Jose for a period of time and also lived very close to Fremont and Santa Rosa at different stages of my life. So I would say this test was accurate for me.

I got Long Beach, Jersey City, and Honolulu.
Let's discard the last one, as the closest ever got to Hawaii was in California.
The two places in the USA where I stayed longest were:
North Hollywood, CA = 30 miles from Long Beach
Princeton, NJ = 46 miles from Jersey City

I grew up in Seattle, and that is exactly where the quiz results placed me, the other two cities being Portland (Oregon) and Spokane.
I lived in Seattle until the age of 17, then stayed in the Pacific Northwest until 1999, when I was 25, spending some time each year in the Spokane area because I have close family there. Between 1999 and the present, I spent 8 years in New England (Boston and New Haven), 2 years in Chicago and the rest in Italy.

I guess having spent my first 25 years in the Seattle area means I am a Seattlite for life, at least in terms of dialect (and proud of it!).
Happy New Year, everyone!

It managed to track down the backwater town in Idaho that I grew up in. I had lived in all the major cities it listed as well.
Yonkers, New York - New York City - Newark, New Jersey.
I grew up and lived in Queens, New York for 21 years, and now live in Massachusetts. As the adage says, 'old habits die hard.'
