innovation Explanation: Hello, I think an "Innovation" would be one of the ways to develop an organization or achieve a specific goal. So, by pursuing an innovation in your business, it can grow into better business and get more opportunities. Please refer to the below context! Hope it helps ! :) Example 1) Innovation and the pursuit of new business opportunities are essential for growth at the firm level; Example 2) This chapter describes recent work in economics and management scholarship on how firms grow, with specific focus on questions surrounding the types of innovations that large and small firms pursue and how they impact their relative growth rates. Example 3) Furthermore, as manufacturing firms and service firms are different in many respects, including innovation performance, it could be expected that manufacturing firms could pursue and emphasise different aspects of innovation than their service counterparts. https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=50066 https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/kpm.259 https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=50066 https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/kpm.259 |

Leap (sort of) Explanation: 도약 doesn’t mean “growth” or "passion and growth". The most direct translation is “leap” (though alternatives like “jump” and “take-off” also contain the basic meaning). However, translating this term is not so simple! I was working at Lucky-Goldstar back in 1995 when the group updated its corporate name to “LG”. Along with that, they devised a slogan, “도약 2005”, which they translated to “Leap 2005”. This was supposed to guide the group’s efforts over the next ten years as they transformed themselves into a leading global business group. “Leap 2005” is fine. The problem came when the writers wanted to use that term over and over in their marketing. Thus, the group’s Konglish materials would include over-the-top expression like “LG is leaping to become a world-class leader in latest technology fields” or “We are ready to take-off for the future image of a company challenging for unlimited growth”… and on and on. So this is where the problem lies… You can use “leap” by itself. But in English, terms like “leap” and “take-off” often read horribly in sentences about company growth. Therefore, the best translation of 도약 is highly context and sentence-structure sensitive, and the translations must be stylized to match. Since this term invariably appears in marketing materials, the translator can be a bit more flexible and should try to write idiomatically. Without the full context of your source sentence, I can’t just tell you how you should translate 도약. However, as other alternatives, I would suggest the following types of expressions which do not actually use the words "leap" or "take-off". “The company is transforming itself into a leading player in high-technology.” “We are preparing a foundation for a future of tremendous growth.” |
