Office 2010 is available in 32 and 64-bit versions (both are usually included in the same package). AFAIK, TWB 8 will only work with the 32-bit version. Even if you have 64-bit Windows 7, you can install 32-bit Office 2010 in it.

I'm not sure I follow you: you first asked whether TWB 8 works with Word 2010, and now you're reverting to Word 2002. What are "the files you create"?

Translator's Workbench 8.0 + Word 2010+ Window 7 (64 bit) compatible ? Jan 14, 2012

I am going to explain myself a little better. At the moment I have Windows 7 (64 bit) + Word 2002 + Translator's Workbench 8.0 freelance. When I create files with Word 2002 (doc., rtf etc...) and create a memory with wb 8.0 it works fine. When I use Office 2002 alone it works fine. My problem is that when translation agencies send me doc., rtf files and I open them with Word 2002 very often I have a got a error message and I am obliged to close the document and so cannot work with tw 8.0. My problem is that when translation agencies send me doc., rtf files and I open them with Word 2002 very often I have a got a error message and I am obliged to close the document and so cannot work with tw 8.0. I have asked recently the question on Proz and some translators have told me to replace Word 2002 by Word 2010 and doing that I will not have anymore problems. So my question is does 32-bit or 64 -bit Office 2010 work with Translator's Workbench 8.0 on Windows 7 (64 bit) ? you already told me that Office 2010 works on Windows 7 (64 bit).
My goal is to know if Office 2010 is compatible with Translator's Workbench 8.0 freelance and with Windows 7 (64 bit) because I would like to be sure before buying Office 2010 that everything works fine.

I hope you have better understood

TWB 8 OK with 64-bit Win7 & 32-bit Word 2010 Jan 14, 2012

As long as you install the 32-bit version of Office 2010, you will be OK. Just because you have 64-bit Win7, it doesn't mean you *have to* install 64-bit Office 2010: you can, but it's not necessary (if you do, you won't be able to run TWB).
You'll also want to stay away from the "Click-to-Run" version of Office 2010, as it's a known troublemaker. And you'll want to avoid the Starter edition of Office 2010, as it doesn't include VBA.

Hi Jean-Paul,

Yes, cleaning files works fine here. I don't use Trados for work though (I use memoQ), but I have tried it and cleaning in Workbench works fine.

Michael

• Word 2010 (32-bit)(do not install the 64-bit version of Office!)
• Translator's Workbench/SDLX, Version 8
• Windows 7 (64-bit)
