Thank you \"willivere\". This is good to know, \"Because an informed consumer is less likely to get taken\".
I personally think that most of the dangers with PayPal are in connection with products not delivered, defective, etc. As we as translators are in this case \"the seller\" of services, our position is quite good. It is the agency/customer who should be cautious. They could not get their money back in case of problems with the translation.

On the other hand do they have 30 to 45 days or more to evaluate what they have received from the translator.
In my opinion, our risk is mainly that someone unauthorized deducts funds from our account (see the following \"church\" example), or funds being frozen be PayPal, like in case of the owner of the PayPal warning site. Also that Paypal new terms allows them to access bank accounts without express permission is quite disturbing.
I followed a couple of links, because, the author of the website is, as he states, a former disgruntled customer, and it is always good to get an overview.
To all PayPal users (including myself) - It is worth to read a bit, because the next victim might be YOU.

Paypal is very useful. And safe!
My opinion is that it is the best way of payment over the internet.

A while ago I\'d seen propay as an alternative to paypal. I don\'t know how good their system is - no experience with them, but the website is www.propay.com.

Do I have to believe to all this? These guys say they will take money from your Savings Account ... this would be terrifying.
I am a verified costumer of PayPal... Has anyone had POSITIVE experience, before I get hysterical?
Thanks,

Flavio,
I have been using PayPal for some time now, and it has always worked well for me. All transfers to my banking account have worked without any problems; clients have paid me through PayPal - again, without any problems at all. | | | Ann VDP Local time: 12:39 프랑스어에서 네덜란드어 + ... Pay Pal does charge more than they say | Mar 12, 2002 |
I have been using Pay Pal for a few months now. I primarily use it to collect money from overseas customers and since I cannot withdraw it into a Belgian bank account, I use this money to pay other translators. So far, so good. Last month, however, I used my credit card to supplement a payment to one of my freelance translators and in checking my monthly statement, I noticed that they have charged almost 3 USD more than they said on their website. So yes, I am starting to wonder whether it is all \'koosjer\'... and I will be closing my Pay Pal account very soon. I do think the accusations I have read so far are serious enough to start asking whether the Pay Pal services are really that wonderful. After all, if only half of it is true, it is absolutely DREADFUL and I, for one, does not want to take any unnecessary risks with the money I had to work so hard for...
Once again, this leaves me wondering on how to collect overseas payments without high bank charges. Anyone any suggestions??? ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » PayPal: Your friend ?
