Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my recent experience with a company that reached out to me and get your insights on how to handle such cases, as I am quite new in this industry.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my recent experience with a company that reached out to me and get your insights on how to handle such cases, as I am quite new in this industry.

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by "Global 3" thanks to a contact of mine through LinkedIn, as they said. The email came from someone, who introduced the company as a new player in the localization industry. They directly send me a rate card, but they didn’t negotiate at all, which I found a bit unusual.

After that, they sent me an NDA to sign, but upon reviewing it, I noticed that:

There was no company registration number or official business details.
There was no email agency signature, just first names.
They are, of course, not on Blue Board.
Their website is very basic and lacks substantial company information, and the people working here are all quite famous and accomplished people from the translation industry, but on LinkedIn they have no mention of this company. https://www.global3.io/
The address provided (201 Ocean Avenue Santa Monica, California, US - 90402) corresponds to a luxury residential building rather than an office, and the only legal document I found about this company is quite strange (https://www.bizprofile.net/ca/santa-monica/global3-inc).
Their LinkedIn page exists, but their listed employees have no real connection to the company.
I thought the name of the agency was Global 3 io, but employees do not even mention their company name in emails.

Given the number of scams in the translation industry, I wanted to ask:
🔹 How do you verify the legitimacy of a company before signing an NDA?
🔹 Have any of you worked with "Global 3" before?
🔹 What are the best ways to protect ourselves from potentially fraudulent clients?

I'm also not familiar working with US based agencies, maybe some things differ from European companies.

I appreciate any advice or shared experiences!

Thanks in advance,
Kiara

I don't know Mar 21

I don't know if this is a scam company or not.

My advice would be that, if you do decide to go ahead and work for them, stick to fairly small jobs at first until you feel more confident that you can trust them. That way, your losses are limited if anything goes wrong.

And if anyone asks you for money to work or to get paid, that's a sure sign of a scam.

I don't work with US companies either, by the way - my professional indemnity insurance doesn't cover me because the US is more lititious than the UK and claims are apparently more likely.

Headache 07:48

Save yourself a headache and a financial hangover and simply don't work with agencies/companies that seem to be fishy. There's an ocean of legitimate agencies/companies that only take minutes to check if they are real. Focus on those.
