Is saying thank you out of fashion? I often reply to a colleague's question (Kudoz) or problem (Forums) and get no reaction at all. In fact, a few days ago I sent an email directly to a colleague with information that I thought would be useful in resolving a non-payment problem and... nothing! Perhaps Proz could organise a training session on the subject or at least add a segment to a course on the importance of thanking your peers if you want them to continue to be helpful. I've been in this profession for many years and I like to help, but the least I expect in return is a simple thank you!Collapse

Is it a human that answered my question? Jan 22

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that These colleagues don't even know they are interacting with a human, not a machine. Machines don't Need a "Thank you".

I’m quite aware that AI tools can be used to impersonate celebrities, politicians and public figures, but I'm a mere mortal. I wonder if there's a machine out there named as me…

Good manners or politness are learnt from a young age with our family.
If you don't acquire it from an early age, it's unlikely that you'll achieve anything as an adult... let alone with training.
Those ‘colleagues’ who don't say ‘thank you’, who aren't cordial and/or who are rude, I simply ignore them; even though I also really enjoy helping here!
They don't deserve my respect.
That's my philosophy.

"Good manners cost nothing" Jan 22

You are wrong...
Funnily enough, yesterday, I was talking to a virtual assistant and it thanked me after asking me if I needed anything else.
In my country there's a saying: "good manners fit everywhere"... even with robots 😁
In a community like Proz, this wise piece of advice is our friend:

Brain rot Jan 22

That's another side effect of AI: the more we interact with machines, bots, algorithms, virtuality, artificiality online, the more we dehumanize.

As I see it, the internet as a whole is becoming a giant artificial machine where, many times, we can't tell if we're interacting with an efficient AI bot or a human being.

As I see it, the internet as a whole is becoming a giant artificial machine where, many times, we can't tell if we're interacting with an efficient AI bot or a human being.
Even if human beings are still behind most of the internet content, it's modeled to suit AI algorithms, social media trends, and SEO results; therefore, the human input is decreasing/obscuring more and more.

Some people (I mean humans) might get more affected by this interaction and start to replicate that behavior.
So, as @Sandra said, I just ignore them. It makes no sense to waste energy on brain-rotted “bot people.”
