Ten minutes later they drew up in front of the restaurant. The doorman helped Jill out of the car and took the keys from Peter who asked for a tie for Alfonso. The woman who took their coats looked disapprovingly at Alfonso. What was Mr. Garland doing with a guest like that? And Jill. Who was this young lady then? The cheap woollen coat said everything.
It was a Russian restaurant. Rich mirrors and red velvet walls. The tables were little islands of light in the dark decor. Alfonso had never drunk vodka before. The bottle was placed in a bucket on the table. Their meal was punctured by vigorous serenades from a trio of Russian players. At about three in the morning they started throwing their glasses over their shoulders as they finished them. Peter assured Jill that they were included in the price. Peter told Jill he loved her. Alfonso agreed and said he did too. They both put an arm around her and kissed her on the cheek. She felt good and better than she had been for a long time. Peter leaned his head against the wall and closed his eyes. God this was fun. Far from that ghastly family feast. He couldn't stand one more. Would have to do something about it all. Alfonso was thinking of his wife, the little flat in the suburbs of Madrid and tears started running down his cheeks. He wiped his face with embarrassment. Peter was informed by the head waiter that it was four o'clock and that they were thinking of closing, if that was alright? They looked around and saw that they were the only clients left. The musicians were asleep in a corner.
It was cold outside. Very cold. They drove Alfonso back home. Peter stopped the car soon after dropping him off and took Jill in his arms. Shall we go back to your place, he asked? No. No she did not want him back there. Too soon after the other departure. So they went back to the office and made love under the conference table.
Peter left Jill at a nearby bus-stop. A little wave, a fluttered look. She stood there alone in the grey light, her long black skirt in the dawn, her white face drawn, her night written all over her.

It was eight o'clock in the evening a week later. Peter was working at his desk, his secretary in the neighbouring office. Alfonso came in to clear the ashtrays and empty the waste-paper basket. When he saw Peter he said he would come back later. Peter looked up and smiled vaguely and told him to go ahead. His 'phone rang.
Do you want to take it? His secretary asked.
Who is it?
Jill. She just said Jill.
Jill? Who is she? I've never heard of her, Peter said putting down the receiver.
Alfonso shot him a glance. He held the heavy crystal ashtray in his hand. His heart started beating faster and he looked at the man, then down at his hand. The bastard. The bloody bastard. He made a move toward the desk, feeling the weight of the ashtray. And then thought better of it. His family in Madrid. They needed him. They needed his money.

번역어 - 영어 The main feature when it comes to the slave narrative of the 18th century would have been the fact that black authors would never intend to pretend to be something different than what they were. It would be most incorrect to state that this practice was one that was in opposition with the reality outside their status as the main intent was based on showcasing the “continuous rejection of oppression and defence on manhood” (Foster 44). As in, even though they would have adopted the current literary conventions of those times, they would never intend on creating a new form of literary genre. The authors are looking at a focus on the individual, as opposed to an intent of perfecting the written text.
The author of the 18th century would conserve a chronological line of events in which the main ideology would be sustained by religious motives, often concentrating the attention on the horrors of the slave trade. As briefly mentioned above, the fellow black writer did not
have a certain audience they could refer to, as most of the literate society would be of white descent. Many earlier publications would establish themselves on British land. Olaudah Equiano would be the first prominent figure when it came to the rise of the slave narrative. In his autobiography, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, the author embarks us on a journey which would consist of a variety of styles, ranging from the slavery narrative, travel narrative, and lastly spiritual narrative.
When discussing the events through which the narrator would have been forced to go through, they often depict the outcome as happening due to a sense of courage and perseverance they were able to maintain. Very few writers were able to buy their freedom and achieve respectable positions. Frederick Douglass will remain the prime example in those regards, a former slave who would end up with a respectable position in the Congress. Through those means, he was able to push the abolitionist agenda to an audience on a larger spectrum. The slave trade had been challenged greatly during this specific century, as many feared that if this trade would have been abolished, many countries would have to suffer in an economical sense. This “humanitarian procedure” was necessary in the system constructed, or at least there was a need for it as no quick substitute to this could have been supplied in high time. Among one of Foster’s publications, it is quoted that when the African Slave Trade Act had been signed by Thomas Jefferson in 1807, an act which prohibited the exportation of humanitarian export had been prohibited, interest in slave narratives quickly dissipated.
Moving forward to the 19th century, there is the instance that people are greeted with a different feel to this literary genre, an aftermath that came with the socio-political developments. The focus now shifts for the need of freedom from bondage, it is essentially the evolution from the predeceasing tradition set back in the previous century. The American abolitionists have been greatly inspired by the ceasing of slavery in Britain in 1830 and sought to search for further clarification to as of how the current slavery situation had impacted their community. During this period, important novels which would belong to Olaudah Equiano and Venture Smith would be reissued and their sales would skyrocket as interest to this literary genre would only grow bigger by each passing day.
An important novel which was greatly inspired by this characteristic would be one of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Through the entirety of the fictional text, the reader follows the runaway slave Jim along the river of Mississippi. This action had been taken as the result of him finding out his master was looking into the possibility of selling him forward. Therefore, he chose to leave on a journey in hopes of getting to the North where he would be able to re-establish himself as a different individual.

My professional background has it's roots in the literary field. I have recently graduated with a philology major in Chinese, English respectively. I am greatly interested in creative writing, excerpts which are available on my blog (as per https://ashedrenaissance.home.blog).
I have also managed to gain familiarity in the technological and legal fields, after participating in a few projects during my college years and due to the nature of the work environment I have been employed in.
