Judgment, Not Just Output, Is Our Lasting Value Oct 8

I voted for contextual reasoning, cultural fluency, and evaluating output quality under ambiguity.

AI tools can now produce fluent translations in seconds, so speed alone is no longer a real advantage.

What these tools still struggle with is judgment: recognizing when a fluent sentence is subtly wrong, when a term carries different legal or cultural weight in the target context, or when ambiguity calls for an informed decision rather than a literal rendering.

Technical tool mastery remains essential, but it is a baseline requirement rather than a differentiator.

Coding and machine learning may benefit those moving into technical roles, but they are not central to most language work.

In my view, our role is shifting from producing text to ensuring its accuracy and appropriateness, and that requires human judgment.

However important technical tool mastery may be these days, nothing can replace a deep understanding of both the source and target languages, subject matter expertise, attention to detail, skilled writing, confidentiality and professionalism, among other skills we human translators have…

Learning how to "vibe code" a startup or even many startups 🤷‍♀️ Oct 9

Now that jobs are disappearing thanks to Claude's help, creating a startup through "vibe coding" with his assistance is becoming very trendy. But beware! Because this method has become so accessible and practical, anything that can be developed in this way will see a lot of competitors emerging. So, don't expect your "vibe coded" startup to last forever, instead, be ready to launch others the same way, just in case.

Given the undeniable success of Claude, "vibe coding" is set to become an essential skill. Indeed, you will need to turn to "vibe coding" to develop an endless number of applications or startups in order to survive. 🤷‍♀️

That means apps and startups will become "disposable" from now on. So be prepared to be “founder” and “cofounder” numerous times in your life. I believe that's going to be the most common job title in the future.
